I tried another one of Delish’s “one pan meals” last week. These meatballs were not difficult to make and they are SO GOOD! My intention was to serve them over rice, but they ended up getting eaten with toothpicks before I could make the rice. These would be great to make for an appetizer!
Here’s what you’ll need: 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 panko bread crumbs, 4 green onions, 1 egg, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 t sesame oil, red pepper, 1/4 c cornstarch, vegetable oil for frying, 1/2 c chicken broth, 1/4 c soy sauce, 2 T apple cider vinegar, 2 T hoisin sauce, 1 T honey, 2 t sesame seeds.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onions, egg, garlic, ginger and sesame oil. Salt and pepper to taste.
Mix all this together, then form into balls – I used about a heaping tablespoon of meat for each ball. Toss the meatballs in the cornstarch, fully coating each one.
Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet. Add meatballs and cook until seared on all sides, about 3 minutes per side.
When meatballs are done, remove from skillet and drain on a paper towel.
Drain the fat from the skillet, then add the chicken broth, soy sauce, vinegar, honey, a pinch of red pepper flakes, and hoisin. If you’re not familiar with hoisin sauce, it can be found in the Asian section of your grocery store. It’s sweet and spicy dark red sauce made from soy beans, ginger, garlic and other spices. I whisked all of this together in a bowl, then poured it into the skillet, but you can throw it all right in the skillet if you want.
Add the meatballs back into the pan with the sauce and simmer until the meatballs are cooked through – six to eight more minutes.
Remove from heat and add green onions and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top if you want. This is what they look like.
Aren’t they beautiful? I promise they are as delicious as they look.
