Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Walnuts

Banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts just might become your new favorite! It’s perfect for breakfast or a snack at any time of the day!

We all need comfort food now and then, and banana bread warm from the oven is definitely comfort food for me. Also, in my opinion, it makes your house smell amazing while it’s baking. However, I do not like dry banana bread and this recipe is just the best.

One of my favorite cooks in the world gave this recipe to me. I wrote it on a recipe card in high school and have been making it ever since. I added the chocolate chips and walnuts. If you want just plain basic banana bread, then just leave those out. It is most definitely amazing all by itself. Personally, I love it warm from the oven with a little bit of butter. But it is fantastic at room temperature as well.

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 3-4 ripe bananas
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/4 c walnut pieces
  • 3/4 c chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 325. Lightly spray a 9 inch loaf pan with non stick cooking spray. Then in a large bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter. Next, add the eggs and beat well. Now add the bananas. They definitely need to be ripe. I usually smash them a little as I’m putting them in the bowl. Beat well.

Whisk together the flour and baking soda in a separate bowl, then stir it into the banana mixture until fully mixed. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts.

Spoon into the greased loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Note: depending on your oven, this may take more or less time, so just watch it once you get to 50 minutes or so.

Cool on a baking rack. It will slice better if you let it cool for awhile, but if you can’t wait that long, no judgement here.
