These sweet and spicy nuts are so easy to make and are a delicious holiday treat. They also make a beautiful gift!
I really enjoy making and giving little homemade gifts during the holidays. This is a very easy one to make and they are so yummy.
I like to have random treats around the house during the holidays. These are great because you can just have them sitting out during a party or you can give them as gifts. I love the sweet and salty combination and this recipe adds a little spice too. Best of all, they are a pretty healthy snack choice!
You can use pretty much any type of nuts you like. I used almonds, pecans and walnuts for this particular recipe. But hazelnuts, macadamia or cashews would also be delicious.
You’ll need:
- 1 pound raw nuts – pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc. (you might want to double if you are wanting to make some gifts)
- 3 T white sugar
- 3 T brown sugar
- 1 egg white
- 1 T water
- 1/2 t cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 t cinnamon
- 1/2 t ground cloves
- 1 t kosher salt
Preheat your oven to 275.
Combine the salt, spices and sugar into a small bowl. Whisk the egg white and water together until foamy in a large mixing bowl.
Add the nuts to the egg white and stir until the nuts are throughly coated. Sprinkle the spices over the nuts and stir. Make sure you throughly coat every nut in the spices.
Spread the nuts in a single layer on one large or two small baking sheets. Bake for 15 minutes, then stir well. Bake for 15 more minutes. Remove from oven.
When completely cooled, break the nuts apart if they are stuck together. Store in an airtight container. These will last for about a month if they are stored correctly.
You can put these in cute little jars and add a ribbon for gifts. Or they would also be great in a little holiday tin.
