These beef tips are tender, flavorful, and delicious. You can serve them with noodles or on top of mashed potatoes (or anything else you can think of). These take a couple of hours, but they are so worth it!
You’ll need a package of “stew meat”. If you’re not familiar with that, just look in the beef section of the store. You’ll find them. You will need 2-2.5 pounds for this recipe.
The first thing you need to do is chop an onion. Then, in a large skillet (or saucepan), add about 2 T of vegetable oil (or any oil that you’d like to use) and the chopped onion.
Cook it for a minute or two, then add the beef.
Cook the beef until it is browned on all sides. You’re not cooking it all the way through right now. It’s going to simmer for quite awhile.
When the meat is browned, add 2 c water, 1/4 c soy sauce, 1/4 c Worcestershire sauce, 1 t salt, 1 t pepper, and 1 t garlic powder.
Stir it up, heat to boiling, put a lid on it, reduce the heat to medium low and let it simmer for 1 1/2 – 2 hours.
Now you’ll need a packet of McCormick’s brown gravy mix. I forgot to take a picture of it, but you can find it where all the marinades and sauce mixes are in your grocery store. The purpose of this is just to thicken up your “sauce” a little and it also just adds more flavor. Whisk together the packet of gravy mix with a cup of cold water until it is mixed well. Add it to the pan and turn it back up to medium high and just let it sit there and thicken up a little.
While that is doing its thing, cook the noodles if that’s what you are going to serve them with. Here’s the kind I used today, but you can obviously use other kinds if that’s your preference.
Cook them according to the package directions.
By the time the noodles are ready, the beef tips should be ready too! It won’t be super thick, but that’s good because you’re going to mix all that yummy gravy with the noodles! For this amount of beef, I used a whole pound of noodles, but you can adjust that however you need to. This amount will serve several people – I’d say 6-8.
Pour the meat mixture on top of the cooked noodles, stir it all up and enjoy! If you try it on top of mashed potatoes, just ladle on top of each serving of potatoes.
